Your estimate
How this calculator works
Subtract taxable income from the upper boundary of the highest occupied bracket (the first bracket if there is no taxable income). At an exact boundary, the current bracket is filled and remaining headroom is zero; the next taxable dollar enters the following bracket. A higher rate applies only to the income in that higher bracket.
Worked example
A single filer with $50,000 of taxable income has $400 remaining before the 22% bracket starts above $50,400. Current federal income tax is $5,752.
What this estimate includes
Capital gains, credits, payroll taxes and state taxes are excluded. The highest bracket has no upper ceiling.
